Geo. H. Tonjes, 90, Services Are Held
Funeral services were held Monday a 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for George H. Tonjes, 90, who died Wednesday.
Rev. John Erlandson officiated with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Delbert Moeller was organist and singing were Rev. Erlandson,
Mrs. Elmer Hilbers and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Muller.
Pallbearers were Keith and Truman Fahrenholz, Wesley Gunderson, Wayne Poppe, Kenneth Tonjes and Daniel Tonjes. Spear Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tonjes was born March 4, 1884, on a farm near Scribner. He was married to Martha Hilbers of Wisner on Dec. 20, 1911. She died in 1955.
The couple farmed near Allen from 1911 to 1920, then came to the Scribner area and farmed until 1945 when they moved into Scribner.
Mr. Tonjes was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a member of School Dist. 35.
Survivors include 3 sons, Clarence of Needles, Calif., George and Norman, both of Scribner; 4 daughters, Mrs. Howard (Grace) Gunderson of Rosalie, Mrs. Edwin (Mildred) Fahrenholz of Allen,
Mrs. Maurice (Evelyn) Swanson of Pender, and Mrs. Donald (Valenda) Poppe of Scribner; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
