Rites Held Monday for Johanna Tonjes
Funeral services were held for Miss Johanna Tonjes, 68, Monday at
the Spear Funeral home and 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Rev. Hugo Welchert officiated.
Miss Tonjes died on Friday at a Norfolk hospital. She had been ill
about a week.
Music was provided by a quartet, Delwyn Hasemann, Harvey Hasemann,
Dorlin Drieling, and Marvin VonSeggern. They were accompanied by
Mrs. Delbert Moeller on the organ.
Pallbearers were all nephews, John Suhr Jr., Henry Suhr, Adolf
English, Geo. Tonjes Jr., Donald Poppe and Norman Tonjes.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Miss Tonjes was born Oct. 2, 1886 on the Tonjes homestead northeast
of Scribner and lived in this community for 53 years. She was the
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Tonjes. Following her
mothers's death she kept house for her father until 1939 when she
entered a Norfolk hospital. She was a member of St. Paul's
Lutheran Church, being confirmed in 1902.
Survivors include a brother, Geo. Tonjes Sr., of Scribner, four
sisters, Mrs. John Suhr Sr., of Pender, Miss Mathilda Tonjes, of
Norfolk, Mrs. Carl Hilbers, of Yuba City, Calif., and Mrs. Herman
Schwarting, of Gordon.
