13810 The birthdate on the monument says 8 Oct 1842. Horsmann, Elisabeth (I76536)

13811 The census records for Burlington, Iowa make a fairly convincing case for assuming that the Schwarting Family settled there. There are 1895 records for Herman, born abt. 1872; George, born abt. 1874, Louisa, born abt 1876 in Des Moines County, and Tille, born abt 1878 in Des Moines County.

The 1892 City Directory Shows George and Herman both living at 1731 Sunnyside Ave. in Burlington. Louisa also is listed, living at a different address. In 1894 she is listed at that address.

The 1880 Special census of "Pauper and Indigent Inhabitants in Institutions, Poor-Houses or Asylums, or Boarded at Public Expense in Private Houses" lists Sophia Schwarting in Burlington, who received a very small sum of temporary aid because her husband had died in April.
The 5 Aug. 1897 marriage record of Louisa Schwarting and Frederick Carl Miller (in Des Moines County)shows her parents as John Schwarting and Sophia H. Oltman. The 1925 Iowa census record of Louise Mueller lists her parents as John Schwarting and Sophia Oltmann, and again gives her birth date as around 1876.

13822 The death certificate of her daughter Philomena gives her maiden name as Elizabeth Macke. The will of Frank Rusche, dated 1873, also gives her name as Elizabeth Macke.

There is a death certificate for Elizabeth Housemann (1915 Dayton, Ohio) that lists her date of birth as 16 June 1827 and her parents as Henry Macke and Mary Handkamp, both of Germany. Assuming that Elizabeth re-married after the death of her first husband, this seems very likely to be the same person.

The Tranor Family Tree on ancestry makes these connections. It seems to be correct. The Donnersburger Family Tree on ancestry (submitted by Richard Minogue) also agrees on the main points. It gives her birth date as 11 June 1828 in Holdorf (which agrees with her immigration record and the 1900 census, which says June 1828.)

13846 The Minnesota Death Index gives the last name of the mother of Bernard Imdieke (1881 - 1967) as "Macke".

The obituary of Elisabeth's mother, Adelheid Pöppelmann Macke, says that she died in the home of her "Schwiegersohn H. Imdieke" in Meire Grove.

She seems to have sometimes used the name "Elizabeth". There were at least two other women in Meire Grove named Elizabeth or Lizzie Imdieke, all born in the 1840s.
